Linda's Lecture Programs
If you are looking for an educational and entertaining speaker for your program, symposium or garden event, I have many prepared talks that I will be delighted to present. If you need a specially designed talk, I have over 20,000 slides to choose from. I have literally travelled the world photographing gardens, landscapes and architecture and love sharing my photos with anyone who is interested. I am developing a 1.5 acre English-style "garden room" arboretum on my property and have documentary photos of its progress. I look forward to hearing about your garden program needs! My biography. |

| Programs that are currently available: The Art of Landscape Design A program developed for the Master Gardeners and suitable for classroom style events. Design elements, principles, color and meaning are carefully developed with images from around the world. Combine this talk with The Science of Landscape Design for your own mini- symposium. 1 hr, 15 mins The Science of Landscape Design A companion program to The Art of Landscape Design developed for the Master Gardeners and also suitable for classroom style events. The design process is analyzed and examples of techniques are explored through detailed photos and illustrations. Combine with the above and make it an event! 1 hr, 15 mins The Chelsea Flower Show Always a favorite for the armchair gardener. 30-45 mins. The History of English Gardens Great introduction to gardens in England and England's influence on gardens and gardeners all over the world. Inspirational! 45 mins. - 1 hr. Great Garden Traditions: England, France, Italy These countries have influenced gardeners world-wide. Learn what makes each unique and how they can give you inspiration for revitalizing your garden. Take a world-wide tour from the comfort of your armchair or lecture hall! 30-45 mins. Wildflowers in the Carolinas A personal favorite of mine, these plants remind me of my mother and grandmother who knew woodland wildflowers and inspired me to learn them. 30-45 mins. Garden Rooms What they are (extensions of the home), where they came from (England), how to make them (you'll have to see the program!). 45 mins. Gertrude Jekyll, Edwin Lutyens, and the origin of the Cottage Garden Jekyll was an artist, painter, embroiderer, sculptor and photographer - first. She took up gardening at age 43 when her eyesight began to fail. Lessons from her life and her prolific gardening career. Includes her astonishing color revelations that are still applicable! 45 mins - 1 hr. The Charleston Garden Loutrel Briggs designed many of the most famous Charleston gardens. You'll see why so many people love to visit Charleston in the spring and fall! 30-45 mins. Hedges and Hedgrows The history of the hedgerow begins in 1066 in England. They are practical, ornamental and environmentally correct today! Learn about their history, design, care and the proper selection of varieties for hedges. 45 mins - 1hr. Making Lemonade out of Lemons: My Arboretum In 2002, pine beetles attacked a stand of 90 pine trees on our property. The bulldozer started to remove them in January 2003 but, then, for three months, the rains came. During this time: I took a 54-class (9 courses) master course on landscape architecture with Mary Palmer Dargan, ASLA; my brother, Howard Tiller, MD, died suddenly at 51 that April; I traveled to Italy with Penelope Hobhouse in June; and my garden plan for the arboretum was born. In the fall of 2006, my sister, Barbara Barragan, died of brain cancer. This life is a proving ground, or a trial garden, for heaven to come. Don't you doubt it! 45 mins - 1hr. How a Web Site can help you promote yourself or your non-profit I designed and posted my first web site in 1997. It was a single page that advertised my first garden tour. It was responsible for making my first tour the beginning of a successful business and fulfilling career. 45 mins - 1hr. A word about pricing for the lectures: I am willing to travel locally, regionally, anywhere in the USA, or to other countries if the occasion arises. Charges are based on the particular presentation, travel, hotels, meals, and time involved. If you need a joint program/symposium: I have a garden friend who is a wonderful speaker and the two of us can be had for a special price if your program allows for it. See Linda Cobb's web site: My Gardener's Guide. |
