I started Copper Beech Garden Tours in 1997 and took my first goup of participants to England in 1998. I don't plan many trips (one or two a year, at most) but I love doing it. Planning the trip is almost as much fun as going on one - but not quite!

The trips are the best when you have a group of relaxed, easy-going, but interesting participants. Getting to know gardeners from across the USA and Canada has been part of the attraction for me. I have friends from many states now that I would not have made, had I not started this small business.

Below are some brief points in my background. I hope that you will consider traveling with me on one of the tours soon!

Linda McHam

Linda McHam, Spartanburg, SC, has an MBA in marketing from Pace University in New York City (1985) and a BA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (1973) in commercial design. She has completed a certificate course in June, 2003, of nine courses in 12 weeks in Landscape Design (CCALD) offered by Clemson University and taught by Mary Palmer Dargan of Dargan Associates, a nationally-known design firm.

Linda has been an instructor for the Master Gardener program in Spartanburg since 1992, teaching landscape and garden design. She lectures on English Gardens, Historic American Gardens, and the Meaning of Gardens, using slides from 20+ years of garden photography.

She is the first woman President of the Spartanburg Men's Garden Club (founded in 1948) with her term beginning November, 2006 and running through November, 2008. She was co-chairman of the national convention held in Spartanburg in April 2006, attended by 170 members from across the USA. Dr. Michael Dirr was the featured speaker and spent three days in Spartanburg assisting with the programs. She served as secretary of the Club for three years and is currently chairman of the Bylaws Committee.

Linda has been invited to speak on the Secret Gardens of Charleston, SC, in April, 2006 and 2007 by the Historic Charleston Foundation - the talk was sold out.

Linda recently helped transfer the printed brochure from the Wofford College Arboretum (Spartanburg, SC) to the web and recorded a pod-cast describing the trees of the arboretum's four trails. Three have been completed: the Central Campus, the South Campus, and the Liberty Trail. The Conifer Trail is in progress.

In February 1999, Linda was invited to speak at the 12th Annual Winter Seminar for professionals in horticulture and landscape design, Hofstra University, NY.

In 1997, she placed in the top five in the national photography contest for The Gardeners of America/Men's Garden Clubs; one of her photos was used in the 1999 national calendar.

An award-winning designer, Linda started LTM Design in 1985, specializing in corporate communications and marketing. Her designs for Wofford College won PICA (Printing Industries of the Carolinas) Best of Category awards in 1990, 1991 and 1994. In 2001, her membership brochure won first place in the Dorothy E. Hansell Publication Award for Hatcher Garden & Woodland Preserve. The competition was sponsored by the American Association of Botanic Gardens and Arboreta (now APGA).

She is, or has been a member of: The American Boxwood Society, The American Rhododendron Society, The Piedmont Carolina Iris Society, The Southern Garden History Society, The Garden Conservancy, The American Parks and Garden Association (formerly AABGA), The Garden Writers Association of America, The Royal Horticultural Society, and The Royal Oak Foundation which supports the National Trust in England.

In 1997, Linda began Copper Beech Ventures, LLC, a custom tour company which offers luxury garden tours emphasizing design, history and horticulture.
