The Making of a Garden/Arboretum

A few years ago (2003), I took a 12-week design course (9 different subjects) with a wonderful friend and well-known landscape designer, Mary Palmer Dargan. In the middle of the program, my brother, W. Howard Tiller, MD, died suddenly from a strep A infection. My family has been devastated over his death. He left a wife and two children, ages 11 and 8, my parents and a brother and three sisters.

This garden is dedicated to the Glory of God in the memory of my brother, Howard. We miss you so much but know that we will see you shortly and we will spend the rest of eternity with you in God's perfect garden in Heaven.

Additionally, in 2006, my sister, Barbara Barragan, died after an 18 month fight with brain cancer. She was 53 and left a husband and three daughters. There are three of us children still here as well as my parents who are in their 80's. You learn that life is short and unpredictable.

My goal in designing this garden has been to convey what I know of this other world. We do not know God's plans and we may depart much sooner than we think. Our life here on this earth is a journey and the traveling of it is important, but it is far more important that you know where you are traveling to, and that you may arrive at any moment. Don't waste the time you have here!
